CommentsEd, thanks for informing us about Eddie's show, Personal Direction. I wish I could be there to see it. It sounds interesting. Ed, or Eddie, or anyone else who might see the show..........maybe someone could take some pictures and send them into the web site. OR maybe Eddie has a web site himself, I don't know that.
I have been busy trying to get ready for another art show myself. Actually this one is more of a Christmas Jubilee and I am trying to do mostly seasonal stuff. Seasonal stuff is not my favorite thing (type of art) to do, so sometimes it is a struggle. I prefer to just let my creative hands and mind go to work and see what happens at the end of the process.
Anyway, thanks again for telling us about the show. I wish Eddie well and hope it is a success.

Comments FYI, if anyone is in the Brookings area between now and 09/23, don't miss the opportunity to see John (Eddie) Rychtarik's one man show at the Community Arts Center located across from the courthouse.
He calls it "Personal Directions" stemming from experiencing parental loss, loss of a son, marriage of his daughter and the realization that he's not really "middle aged" anymore. There are some truly unique and powerful pieces, many indicating the influences of the prairie, Missouri River, and Lake Oahe during his formative years.
Hats off to another "one of a kind" from the Class of '65.

Commentsyep, me again-just today got home from a little road trip. We went with some friends up the north shore of Lake Superior. The little town of Grand Portage is about 10 miles south of the Canadian border. These friends wanted us to go along to celebrate their 47th anniversary at a casino with them. They enjoy the gambling and we have been also known to gamble on occasion. He doesn't drive too well, so we took care of the driving, gas and the wheelchair power. They furnished the vehicle and the rooms, pretty fair arrangement. All in all, it was a really fun time, the scenery up there is second to none, and of course the food at these places is out of this world. Winnings-ha-----jer

CommentsHi everyone! I survived another Sturgis Motorcycle Classic. We began preparing the week after our reunion. It takes the whole month of July to get ready. The first two weeks of August are bascially the Rally. Over 400,000 people came through our doors. We sold 176 motorcycles in a ten day period. I'm sorry I've been AWOL. I make half of my annual salary in the Months of July and August. I sold 65 cycles in the past 45-days.
Now, that I've had a week since the Rally to rediscover my kids and house...heal my feet, etc. I'll finish the memory book. I think everybody who is going to be included has made contact. Cathleen said she'd help me with some of the process and Larry K will provide some technical support. It's laid out and looks like a winner. As soon as I'm finished I'm taking my motorcycle odyssey. Cathleen suggests I take Mr. G and photograph him in different places. That should get some looks. I'll fabricate the little guy from Xavia's center piece art and put him in the saddle bags. Talk to you all later.
I haven't been absent---I've been extremely busy. Summer isn't vacation time in the Harley business. Winter is play time. P the Mitchell

CommentsHi All,
Looks like I will miss the upcoming "mini' reunion this Sept/Oct. However, I would like to suggest we attempt to make the Memorial Service for the Viet Nam War Memorial on Sept 15 and 16, 2006. The Class of 65 has over 40 vets and I think it would be neat to support such an effort. Think about it. We all have some time to decide about this one.
There are some people out there (I won't mention any names) who can be thankful we just decided to not publish some of their reunion pictures. Saved your face (and body) didn't we?? Now I bet I have you all guessing (ha,ha,ha). Just want you to know there are some new pictures on the Photo page under "Reunion Photos" in Gallery 21 and soon to be in Gallery 22. Also, some new pictures in "Current Classmates in Gallery 3. Just keep scrolling to the right.
Let's hear from some of you classmates out there. You all can't be "that" busy, can you? Expect the Memory Booklet to be out soon.

CommentsNo chance on the 'offering' to keep me away from the mini in late September. I'll be there. Just got done with the Rally...650,000 people. Had a great Rally and sale at BH H-D. Now, I need a few days rest and finish off the memory booklet. This little gig that Jerry and Dave are planning should be a good shoot. Lots of old chicks. Penne will, no doubt, make up for not being at the 40th. You can check out our pictures at your local post office. I'll be taking my scooter ride sometime in September--maybe I'll catch the Pierre mini on my way home...I hope to do the Mississippi/Missouri Rivers from New Orleans to Pierre on the return trip. CommentsMark you calendars for a mini-Co65 gathering in Pierre the weekend of Sep 30/Oct 1st, 2005. Not sure of any particulars at this point - more info will be posted.
Here's a blog entry from Dave L. & Jer the "Steemed":
"Just got off the phone with Dave Lindekugal. We were chatting about our 'mini' reunion when Penne gets to Pierre. He suggested we take up a collection for Paul (aka. scooter boy)and his proposed bike trip. Dave thinks we'll have a better chance with the girls if we can get Paul far enough away that he won't make it back for the festivities. Penne's tentative arrival in Pierre is 9-30-05, just in case anyone else is interested and wants to contribute. We figure a $10.00 donation will do it. If anyone needs more info, let me know and I'll do my best....jer " haha
Anyway..... if you can make it to Pierre that weekend, let Jerry Brink or David Lindekugel know.

CommentsCheck out the slide show on the SD Vietnam War Memorial website. We have it as a link on our web link menu. The memorial will be dedicated in Pierre on September 15th and 16th, 2006 for those of you who are interested in attending. That gives you a year to plan. For those who attend, if you want to plan a "get together" for the Class of 65 alumni, maybe we could go out to dinner or have a similar event. Post your thoughts here or on the blog.

CommentsI think this website is one of the greatest ideas anyone has come up with yet! I was not able to attend the reunion in Pierre, but I have had a great time reading about it and seeing the pictures. I hope we can keep this site going for a good long time so we can stay in touch. Looking back over the last 40 years, I feel safe in saying that the Riggs High Class of '65 is the greatest group of people I have ever been around! I'd love to hear from anyone who cares to write.

CommentsMarta, Marta, Marta....have faith in the Class of 65. I only did a satire eulogy to get people back in the flow. We had such a wonderful time I know once the the hecticness of summer is over we'll have a substantial involvement in the web site. We're so sure that we've committed to keep the web site alive and well. So, Marta, gather up your vacation shots and send them in. We're all anxious to see what you've been up to. You can take it from me....this group is one of the most dynamic groups of people I've ever seen. The Class of 65 is alive and well. Just watch and see what September brings and the months after. Join in the fun. We'll catch you at the 45th, if not before. Read what Cathleen said. This is a busy time of year. So, stay involved. There's 181 of us out there and we'll keep the ball rolling. You can count on it!

CommentsHi Marta, Glad to see you on the site. I think everyone is still basking in the afterglow of a great reunion, busy with summer activities, and on vacation. Some people are more comfortable using the computer than others. But, the number of hits show people are tuning in.
Sounds like you had a nice trip to Columbia. If you have any photos you would like to share, please send them in. We may set up some specific galleries for different subjects such as vacations, family, grandkids, etc. Suggestions are welcome.
I arrived in Sacramento today to meet my new granddaughter. What a joy! I'll have a couple of photos to send soon.
Marta, have you checked the blog? There are some recent postings.
Dave and Kathy L. - congratulations - have a nice time at the wedding. I'd like to hear your toast David!

CommentsWhat a shame. It seems that after the reunion nobody cares to get in contact using the website or by email.
I thought I had found my old friends... there's only one that keeps in touch with me. She knows who she is.. we'll meet soon, I hope. Thank God for her.
When you think of all the years and how people have changed, yes, maybe it's only normal that old friendships come to an end. It will never be the same again. I was dreaming of something impossible. This makes me sad but that's life.
My best wishes to everyone.

Congratulations to the ones that made that great reunion possible.

CommentsSorry, But this is my first chance since the reunion to thank everyone involved in making the reunion such an astounding success. I had so much fun, along with everyone else who attended ( including spouses) can't wait to do it again - but 10 years is way too long - was so good to spend time with so many who I have not kept in touch with all these years - but definitely will from now on- class of 65- what a great group! so glad I was part of it. love to all of you- take care and see you ALL next time and hopefully a few more. I think the Sioux Falls people should plan a get together.

CommentsIt's so nice to see everybody's comments. I'd have to agree--our reunion was a classic. I'm diligently putting together the reunion memory booklet. Have patience with me. I'm in the motor cycle business and we're in prime time. Then in August each year a small group of riders always come to Sturgis for a little get-together. Last year 500,000 showed up for the show. It all keeps me a little busy this time of year. Look for the memory books as quick as I get the design put together. Have a great summer. Let's all stay connected via the web site.

Comments Colleen and I want to thank the Pierre Committee for their planning and flawless logistics. What a task they had! Thank you to Peggy & Tom Maher, Gaylord Sonnenshein, Gary Bren, Don Henrichsen (thanks for being a such a great host at the Legion), John McInnis, Terry Varilek, Paul Forney (we missed you), Jim Brooks (what a fun and wet boat ride on Sat), and last but certainly not least David Lindekugel (thanks for keeping us in stitches!). Thank you to Kathy Lindekugel for all your work at the Ramkota. Thanks to all the guys who set up and took down the tent at the Legion. Hope your lip is healed from the accident Tom! The DJ was great at the mixer.
We’re very glad so many classmates from near and far made it to the reunion. The spouses and significant-others fit right in with the Class, and we really enjoyed their company.
Monte…. You’re great!! Thanks for your spirit and your remarks at the banquet.
We're voting for a 45th in Pierre!

Everything was fine, the neighbors had the yard mowed for us, the cats finally forgave us for leaving them alone so long, and now have to start catching up with this thing. Did manage to look at the vidio of the class mates, couldn't help noticing Ms. Ensz' picture coming on about the time Roy Orbison started singing "Pretty Woman", how fitting. more later---jer

CommentsWhat a great reunion! Let’s do it again next year! Just kidding, sort of! I didn’t get to talk with everyone. Two days is too short!
I want to publicly thank Jan Neuharth-Kennedy and Jack Kennedy for all they’ve done for the Class of 65. Jan is the person who truly got our 40th reunion off the ground, organized, and delivered! We are so fortunate to have Jan as a class leader (and a leader with class!). Jack’s tribute to our veterans was inspiring and touching. He also did the AV work at the reunion. Thank you Kennedys – glad you’re still on vacation and having a great time. I appreciate you!

My best wishes to everyone and I expect you'll tell me EVERYTHING about the reunion. Lots of hugs to each and everyone of you--- Marta

CommentsI'm home again, my cats know me and I look the same, but part of me is still back in Pierre, on the Missouri, walking downtown, around my old neighborhood, and most of all connecting with all of you great great people. Most memorable to connect with best friends since the 5th grade and feel the same. Really quite an experience. Thank you Get Connected Team and everyone else for making it such a success. When we blow off our fireworks here in California, I will think of my friends at the Missouri, at Mount Rushmore, Colorado, Minnesota, Florida, all over the US. Wish I could be with Patty and Paul and Cathleen riding through the Hills this weekend. Happy 4th, and I will keep in touch through this web site.

Thanks to everyone who not only helped put it together, but also to those who attended and made it such a memorable time. Even though I spent only 3 years in Pierre, I think of it as home and the Riggs High Class of 65 as the best. You have all enriched my life more than you can know. Thank you for being so great a group of people. I vote for 5 years, too! I can't wait!

You'll see the most current entry titled A NEW BEGINNING....at the end of that entry is the word 'comments'...like this [8comments]. Click on that. Now you can read the comments....the most recent first. Scroll all the way down to 'comment 1' and there is a place for you to post your own comment. Don't be a lurker and just read....you need to participate. The anticipation of the Class of 65 Reunion is over. The key to staying connected is right here on the web site. CommentsA BIG thanks to all you attended the reunion and made it such a success. It was fun, friendly and FANTASTIC!! I'm on the road right now on an extended vacation to the NW. However, when I get back home I plan to re-group and start organizing for the next reunion which will be in five years. Everyone start getting ready NOW, as we all know how fast the time will fly by.
Look for the reunion pictures to be posted on our website within a week or so. They will be presented in zip files and can be downloaded for anyone who would like them. Neat, huh? The web site makes it nice and easy for us all to stay connected and we are able to fund it for future years thanks to the generosity of all the classmates who attended the reunion and donated $$'s.
Life is good!

CommentsI have to agree, many thanks to all that made the class of '65 40th reunion a resounding success. To many of you that did not make the reunion, your names still came up many times during the week-end and you were truly missed, more than you know. Please try to make the next gathering, which I also vote for 5 years from now. This was and continues to be an exceptional class of people and I am proud to have been a part of this class even though only two years of actual school, it was like being family and this reunion was just like 40 years ago. It was too short and I know I did not visit with everyone, so lets talk on the net and at the next gathering of the best class to ever graduate from Riggs High.

CommentsI too want to express my thanks to all of the planners and doers who made the weekend so much fun. I didn't know I could still stay up so late and get up so early and still function. Oh wait, maybe I wasn't functioning all that well all the time. My husband is always amazed at these reunions (he doesn't look like he's having fun, but he is) that we all seem to pick up right where we left off. We truly are blessed to have one another as friends. There were also a lot of people I didn't get to talk to as much as I wanted to but that's the fun of email. Let's keep in close touch and I will be wherever and whenever we decide to have the next one. Everyone have a great summer!

CommentsI suppose you've all wandered how we are going to fund the web site, etc. We've kept it a secret up until now. But, here's the plan. Jan dropped off the DVD of all the pictures that were taken at the mixer, Legion Cabin, on the River Queen, and at the banquet....to include all side-trips, a pretty messy early morning breakfast at Chickadilly's house of fine cuisine, and more. We'll edit the pics and send a copy to the people who might be in a compromising position or condition, which is most everybody. These pics will be FOR SALE! We're figuring the most valuable will probably go for $100 each....then the price scale will drop....eating with food on your face is ten bucks. Beers in both hands with a goofy grin is five bucks a beer. If your eyes were shut or your mouth was open during one of the pics we'll let those go for $2.50 each. Improperly placed hands during a 'hello' hug is a crisp twenty, and we have several to choose from. If you told your wife, husband, children or significant other that you turned in early on Friday or Saturday, we've taken the liberty to super-impose the time and date on the photo's in an effort to generate a truer value. Possibly you spoke of a boring ride on the River Queen...however, if we've got a pic of you pouring your fourth bloody mary out of Gary Bren and Dennis Douglas's brown paper bag, there will be prices based on the amount of your liability. We have shots of you dancing which you might want to purchase just so friends and relatives don't have to see you in the act of being yourself. We also have some candid's of Fort Pierre, which we feel have an exceptional 'collector' value. Boney knees, goofy expressions, and awkward gyrations will all be for sale to the highest bidder. We have nearly 400 pictures with more yet to come. Judging by our initial preview we figure they should net somewhere around $20,000. With a little marketing and some subtle threats, we figure we might garner an additional 10-20-percent. Regardless, since everybody liked the reunion so much and the trend seems to be towards another one in five years, we (The Get Connected team and the Pierre Planning Committee) figured that we'd hold the 2010, 45th Class of 65 planning meeting in the Bahamas, sometime this winter---if that's OK with you all.
However, in the case that nobody is willing to cough up cold cash for their "candid photo's", we'll soon be posting most of them on the web site for your edification, laughs, and memories of the wonderful weekend past.
Jestingly Yours,
Blog Meister

I believe the Huron '67 Girl I married has joined the Riggs Class of '65. It was great fun and too short as I did not get to speak with everyone ( I guess I took too many naps).
I too support the 5 year reunion idea and I hope we can keep the Website going.

CommentsI'll second the WOW's....what a wonderful time we had in Pierre. This goes to show you how dynamic this class of 65 really was. We controlled the town....or, at least it felt that way. I mainly want to thank everybody that came, and extend an early invite to return in five years. For those of you who didn't or couldn't make it...get acquainted through the web site. You know you're all invited to the next go-round. There wasn't a discouraging word. It was absolutely a gas. I loved it. I enjoyed meeting all the old classmates and making new friends along the way. This is a world of disconnects and isolationism. Let's not build any fences in the Class of 65 back yard....and let's stay connected. Why don't we just set the example. You people are a joy to be around. It was almost like it was really forty years ago. Stay involved VIA the web site. There's still a lot to come...so be looking for it...like, everyday take a peak. We need involvement now. Let's talk! I expect to see and hear from you all on a regular basis. Check out the blog site. It's alive and well.

Sandy Gordon was my aunt and I remember many of the names and faces from your class. I remember Sandy loving her teenage years and always speaking of all the fun she had.
I was thrilled to find the pictures of the Ace & Duece on the website, as these were my dad's (class of 55, Jim Gordon) race cars. I spent many Sunday nights at the Oahe speedway.

CommentsWOW, WHAT A WEEK END!!!!! Thanks to all of you who helped make our reunion a most memorable event. It is good to know that 40 years does go by very fast, yet people, for the most part, remain who they were. It was fun to renew friendships and get caught up on years gone. Monte, God is using you to touch the lives of men in prison. Thank you for touching mine this week end. Carol Nelson, send you picture in on a regular basis. It is good to know that there are people like you who seem to age slower. To those of you who could not attend, make a resolution to attend our next gathering in 5 years. This week end blessed my soul. This week end was made special by the efforts of classmates, spouses like Jack Kennedy and friends like our webmaster, Larry. THANKS AGAIN TO ALL OF YOU. I am honored to be part of your efforts and part of this class. Thanks again.. God Bless. I'm voting for 5 years.

CommentsHello Classmates and visitors. Tomorrow is the day we've worked towards for the past several months. I understand we got 'Front Page' in Pierre's River Life tabloid. If you've come to this site from the 'River Life' article, please leave us a comment or two. If you're reading this comment and have any kind of a connection to the Class of '65 please feel free to stop by any of the festivities, including the Issac Walton on Friday night, June 24th, the Legion Cabin, on Saturday, or the banquet on Saturday night at the Ramkota. Even if you don't have a connection and just want to get a taste of our enthusiasm, pay us a visit. And, even if you just stumbled upon this site by accident, or you're a curious Pierreite, let us know what you think----and come visit the web site often. This whole deal has just begun.

CommentsThis is it folks....two more days until the reunion. For you classmates that can't make it...keep your eye on the web site. We'll try to get some posts in while we're in Pierre. Otherwise, I can guarantee you that you'll all be 'talked about' behind your backs. Naw, we'll miss you. We've got some things planned for Pierre and there's a good chance they'll be talking about us for some time to come...but, what's new? They've been talking about us for forty years---what's a little more?
