Mystery Classmate # 1. You might find this classmate's picture in more than one place on the web site. This classmate has been married for 35 to a familiar name. 'Pasture Pool' at the local golf course is a passion. Local for this classmate isn't in Pierre, but he or she makes mention that they still live on the Missouri River. Not a particularly common first name. I remember this classmate as a quiet person and a very good dresser...exactly the kind of guy/gal you would take home to show your mom and dad..which is exactly what a gal from the class of '66 did.
**hint, May 8, 2005: This classmate recently moved to O'Fallon, MO after many years in Neenah, WI...They have twin boys. He coached and taught the first six years, then went into the insurance business, first in property and casualty and more recently in life insurance and training. There's only two other guys in our class with the same first name.
**hint, May 10, 2005: This mystery classmate was no stranger to stocking shelves.
**hint, May 11, 2005: One of his motto's was always to go by the Golden Rule. SOLVED--SOLVED--SOLVED--Paul Sherburn emial Paul and Cheryl (Cowan) Sherburn at Sherbsmo@charter.net
__________
Mystery Classmate # 7. This classmate lived close to the Governor and was always ready and willing with a smile and good company. For 25 years you'd find him 'where the rubber meets the road', never far from Pierre, and close to mile high. Quote: "..raised four girls, that have all made me proud...married twice--second time is the best." I was looking through the web site and found him a few times...a little gray on the roof, but the same great smile.--SOLVED--SOLVED Dennis Douglas email Dennis at ddouglas@transwest.com
__________
Mystery Classmate # 8. This fellow has lived a very exciting, meaningful and varied life--when you solve this mystery classmate, you'll know what I mean and remember him as that sort of person. He was always destined for something different. Thirty-one years in cornhusker state government. Just three years ago this couple went into the Peace Corps as High School English teacher. Kim, their twenty-five year old daughter, who is finishing her second year of law school, and Andrew, a 23-year old, cavalry scout, in the Army, stationed in Germany, are their pride. Quote: As of now I have a "fun" job driving for the Yellow Cab Company, here in Lincoln. It's enjoyable and low stress but I don't think I'll make it a second career." --SOLVED--SOLVED--Harlow Hyde email Harlow at hydes123@msn.com
__________
Mystery Classmate # 9. We've missed this classmate at a couple of reunions. You'll see his picture in several places on the web site. I'd have never guessed this classmate to be a business tycoon...first job was coaching and teaching, in Redfield..then it gets interesting. First, drafted in the Army, and then began a career in insurance and investments..developed hotels and restaurants and owned and operated restaurants on the east coast and some real estate projects around the midwest....four children, a daughter and three sons...four grandchildren. Quote: "Today all our kids are in business with us and I can't tell you how proud and happy it makes us." No, this mystery classmate isn't Don Trump!--SOLVED--SOLVED Jim Flannery email Jim and Linda at Flannery47@yahoo.com
__________
Mystery Classmate # 10. I've had a lot of good times with this classmate. One mutual friend said he was the kind of guy that would 'just about' get in trouble but never quite went all the way. I know better. He's been married to the same woman for 31+ years and has one step-son, living in Florida. He has worked for Kroger Co., the second largest grocery chain next to Walmart, for 25-years. and QUOTE: I plan to retire June 1, 2007 or earlier if they piss me off enough." A Kentuckian who has a vacation home in Florida, this classmate's picture appears several times on the web site. Go find him!--SOLVED--SOLVED--Gerry Boocock email Gerry at Boocock@fuse.net
__________
Mystery Classmate # 11. Quote: "A possible discussion topic for your BLOG might be, "Things I've learned since high school"--a couple of mine are: If you were a goofy geek in high school, you will be terrified of attending your high school reunion - once a goofy geek, always a goofy geek". I don't think so! This mystery classmate was quiet and now says she is "the church lady". A 1969 graduate of Northern, she went on to an admirable career and moved to Scottsdale, AZ, and in 1976 relocated to Dallas, where she worked for Texas Instruments and retired from Raytheon, a Defense Division of Texas Insruments. Since then she went to work at her church (Episcopal Church of the Apostles) as administrator where I remain to this day...thus, the 'church lady'! Married to Jim since 1978, she 'suffers' going to the Dallas Opera every season, one of her husbands favorites, as long as he goes to the country music concerts with her, particularly Toby Keith. This classmate has a pic in both the now and then, and the current pictures section of the web site. And to read her bio, we should all be so lucky as to be a 'goofy geek'. She hopes to attend the reunion this summer and we hope she can make it up here from Texas.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Cynthia Bowers email Cynthia at Cavery1@airmail.net
__________
Mystery Classmate # 12. Married since before dirt, this classmate has has become a new friend of mine, since I wasn't allowed to 'run' with the popular crowd in high school. This classmate is a cool dude and has three children, Tiffany, 31, Taylor 28, and the baby of the family, Tarrah, 26. I thought at one time this classmate had aspirations of being a professional baseball player and did a stint with the Pierre Cowboys, but rather went into the banking business and is now with State Government. His son is getting married the same time as the reunion but he insists he can wear both hats...that of the groom's proud daddy and a welcome and intrigal part of this 40th class reunion. He rates cities across America by the quality of their golf course!--SOLVED--SOLVED-Gaylord Sonnenschein email Gaylord at gaylord.sonnenschein@state.sd.us
__________
Mystery Classmate # 13. This mystery classmate disappeared from us shortly after Rigg's graduation...But, the 'get connected' team tracked him down, in Vermont. He worked for the Church of Christ, in Germany, where he and his wife adopted four-day old Andrea, in 1974, now 30 and a dental hygienist, living three blocks from them, in S. Burlington....one grandchild and another on the way. This mystery classmate has made a career working for he Lord. Furteen years with the Church of Christ, in Germany, followed by another ten years in Great Britain...he's now a minister in Vermont. A very interesting fellow and very excited and eager to hear from old classmates. I thought he would be a rocket scientist, or something. In high school, he definitely represented the top of the grading curve.--SOLVED--SOLVED--David Rivoire email David at DAVMALRIV@cs.com
__________
Mystery Classmate # 14. I can't say too much about this gal--otherwise you'd guess her name right away. I will tell you, though, she's been a regular attendee of our past three decades of class reunions...made her career in the brokerage and financial planning industry. I would never have guessed. I always expected to see her as a regular on Saturday Night Live. Her first job with Dain Bosworth found her working for, none other, than the famous Bill Berguin, of Corral Drive-In fame. Quote: "He talked frequently about all his many employees at the Corral Drive-In--it seems many left a lasting impression with him. Find this gal on the web site and let's get her solved right away! Soon you'll see many pictures on the web site from this mystery classmate of our 20th and 30th class reunions. A wonderful person, if I do say so myself.--SOLVED--SOLVED Sally Metzinger email Sally at Sallymetzinger@aol.com
__________
Mystery Classmate # 15. Quote: " I just got done getting our airline tickets, we have a room at the Ramkota (where the heck is that one located??--Pierre has gotten big!)" This lady not only marches to a different drummer--but an entirely different symphony...and I knew that even in high school. When someone solves this mystery classmate you'll know exactly what I mean. She says she handled the University of Washington mascot for eight years but it didn't take her that long to get her B.A. and M.Ed from UofW, Seattle. This was another classmate who made it difficult for people like me--regarding the grading curve. I think if you combined her and mystery classmate # 13's gpa, it would have been 4.0 x 2. I've always figured I'd rather look back on my life and regret some of the things I've done rather than look back and regret never doing them. Apparently, this mystery classmate is in compliance with that mentality. Check this out! raced sports cars for seven years, Driver of the Year for the MG Marque Club Northwest Centre, first female starter for NW Region Sports Car Club of America, ten years with the National Ski Patrol, performed numerous comedies for local community theater...now in 39th year of teaching....coached cheerleaders (five time national champions)...teacher of the year finalist in Washington State. Her and Bill continue to travel and are very active in their church with choir..she eldering and he deaconing and ushering. Their home has been filled with foster kids and foreign exchange students. A very accomplished and funny lady. I can distinctly remember her laugh and smile. It wouldn't have surprised me one bit for her and mystery classmate # 14 to co-host Saturday Night Live, Hee Haw or Laugh In. She's on the web site. Go see if you can find her.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Sandy See email Sandy at Is4warn@aol.com
__________
Mystery Classmate # 16. This is another class 'rainmaker'. This classmate has been married to Bert for 35 years. WA-HOO!! That's fantastic. She migrated to the mountains, following her sister, in 1967. Hubby is a CPA....and dog's name is 'Dakota'. She occasionally has a "no boys allowed" weekend every few years with some of her Riggs classmates...(the 'get connected team' has acquired exclusive footage of the last 'no boys allowed' weekend, which we'll either sell to the foursome, to finance this web site, or show it pro bono at the class reunion). Quote: "I finally dug up a halfway decent photo and finished my very boring bio--so you can stop nagging me now!" I also recall something about her burning a ciggy hole in the back seat of her mom's car. If there is one thing that can be said about this classmate--she's anything but boring!--SOLVED--SOLVED--Nancy Gilles email Nancy at nancybertc@aol.com
__________
Mystery Classmate # 17. This mystery classmate was always sort of silent but I had a feeling he was up to something mischieveous. He had to go to Turton, SD to find Gayle, his wife of 32 years. They have five children...the youngest, an 8th grader....I'd heard he'd gone into the agricultural business...farming...beans, or something like that...but I was wrong. Quote: "I'm ready to retire but with an 8th grader at home I guess I'll have a few more years before I can hang it up."--SOLVED--SOLVED--Jim Van Camp
__________
Mystery Classmate # 18. This classmate grew up in a brick house. That's the only hint you get. A popular girl in high school with an almost to common name, she got into the business world in an entreprenurial and big way...something to do with Fuddrucker's--World's best hamburgers. She was a very visible classmate who like riding in convertibles. She was always very cheerful and a leader in most everything she did.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Linda Johnson
__________
Mystery Classmate # 19. Many of you might not know this but this mystery classmate was a combat photographer and correspondent with the 4th ID, US Army, in Vietnam. That's front line stuff. His wife, who is a familiar name, and him have three children...a teacher, in Sioux Falls; a senator's aid, in DC; and a Banker in Denver...that's diversity for you. I'm sort of extended family to this classmate, through marriage. My little sis is his wife's brother's wife....which means this classmate and I run into each other from time-to-time at family events. This is a neat guy...trust me on this one.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Ed Colleran email Ed at Ecolleran@att.net
__________
Mystery Classmate # 20. This classmate is my neighbor, in Rapid City. You might remember her as a tall, pretty blonde. You might also remember her as the lifeguard type--swimmer. She has a diverse working history always finding her way next to the biggest flagpole. How about the Defense Atomic Support Agency, in the Pentagon.....or, is that a secret? Or, the SD Dept. of Agriculture and the SD Bicentennial Commission.....or, the Director of Corporations in the Secretary of State's Office. Married to a Murdo guy, they enjoy most of their weekends at their cabin in Spearfish canyon. Her and her husband, of almost three and half decades, have three kids.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Becky Ward email Becky at ecolleran@att.net
__________
Mystery Classmate # 22. Quote: "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Damn, what a ride!" This mystery classmate was very intelligent and was another of those that messed up the grade curve. His quote is a bit surprising since this classmate was very quiet and reserved. He was in sports and has his picture in a few places on the web site. I was acquainted with him and knew the other side..the side that prompted his quote. He's a USD grad and has worked overseas as well as in the U.S. He was one of those 'dam' people. SOLVED--SOLVED..Paul Mitchell email Paul at pmitchell@rushmore.com
**Dennis nabbed me right off the bat. It had to be the 'dam' people hint because all the rest of it is a bunch of bologna...I wasn't a grade curve buster nor was I quiet and reserved. I put that in their to trick the readers. But, that's the only 'trick' mystery classmate I've used. The rest are legit.
__________

She was the only one in our class with this first name. She met her husband, in 1969, on the Alask Hwy (the Alcan), married in 1969 and raised two children, Breian and Jennifer. She retired in November, 2004 from Alaska Regional Hospital Medical Transcription Department after 20 yr. They are now in their motorhome on a month's vacation in Colorado, South Dakota, and Las Vegas. She says June would be too hot for us in Pierre. Look in your year book and find this classmate. She has several pictures on the web site.--SOLVED--SOLVED--SOLVED--Ramona Robinson email Ramona at rodewald@gci.net
__________
Mystery Classmate # 24. This classmate classmate was underated..by that I would never have guessed him to be the type who served from 69-71 as an infantry lieutenant. In Viet Nam, he was an infantry platoon leader with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles). He received a bronze star (meritorious) and Combat Infantry Man's Badge. This, my friends, from someone who knows, is serious front line duty. We have a hero in our midst. Here's the part I can understand. Previous to Vietnam he graduated from he University of SD School of Business with a major in accounting. He worked for an international accounting firm and a local CPA firm. He obtained his CPA certificate in the mid-70's. He is now retired and has a permanent 100% combat service related disability and won't be attending our reunion due to his health. This classmate went by the short version of his formal first name. In high school he was a good student and an athlete. Mystery Classmate # 25. This guy cracks me up...his laugh is contageous. Quote: "It's not nice to make an old man try to remember what has happened to him over the last forty years!" He's been clowning parades, playing Santa for the schools, and has been the Easter Bunny for the local Easter egg hunt for the last 25 years. A minor inconvenience...heck, we got a foot of snow last night in Western South Dakota...now, that IS a major inconvenience! This mystery classmate is a funny guy. I got to know him a little at the 20th where he, Terry Smith, Lindekugle and I did a Saturday afternoon shift at the Holiday Inn Lounge while everyone else was having a family picnic in the park. Mystery Classmate # 35. It's amazing what classmates accomplish and where they go once they leave the halls of Riggs. This classmate spent the first ten years after graduation working in Washington, D.C., for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and the next ten years working for the U.S. Dept. of Justice, traveling around the world. Sounds mysterious, huh? It gets better! She was evacuated out of Afghanistan and was relocated to Wichita, KS. Her and Don retired to a small town in KS...almost sounds like witness protection...where they owned and operated a small oil and gas company. She adopted her son from LaPaz, Bolivia. Altogether they have five children counting Don's, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. For the past 15 years they've been competing in English Springer Spaniel field trials events throughout Canada and the US. They've never won a national championship but have placed in four of them. Quote: "Each day I open my heart to recognize the rainbows in my life." A petite, quiet gal, with a big, big grin. __________
Mystery Classmate # 36. This classmate joined us with only two months left in the school year. His dad was a consultant for the Army Corps of Engineers. They came from Ohio and he had attended a private school, in Toledo. He didn't have a graduation picture and wasn't here for graduation ceremonies. But, he graduated with the Class of 65, and was present at the 20th Class Reunion. I was surprised when I met him. He introduced himself the last night at the banquet because he happened to be traveling through and saw the marquee at the Ramkota welcoming the Class of '65. This is legit. I can prove it. I have his bio and a 'now' picture. Now, let's see how good you are! The only classmate who graduated from two high schools in 1965. Look around the web site and you'll see some hints.--SOLVED--SOLVED--John Biebelheimer
__________
Mystery Classmate # 37. This is a 'dam' person but didn't actually live in the government Housing Area. He has a brother in Aberdeen. This kid had a killer fastball at 12-years old. I know--I batted against him hundreds of times. He had a little bit of a control problem so many of us were wounded more than once. I have to tell you--you can hear his laugh for miles. This guy knows some stories about me that only a handful of people on this planet know about. He worked in St. Paul for twenty plus years, until they closed down the brewery...no kidding... and lived in Wisconsin. Quote: "I took the bucket of lemons (health and work) that life handed me, made a huge cooler of lemondade and threw in some ice, said 'screw it' and went fishing. That was six years ago." One time he took me from Galena to Lead, in a Corvette, and I wanted out at the top of Strawberry Mountain--in a bad way...and I've ridden with some fast drivers in my time.--SOLVED--SOLVED--This was too easy! Gary Bren
__________
Mystery Classmate # 39. You're going to have to look in the Gumbo (which, by the way, I stepped in some gumbo this weekend, in Pierre--yecch!) She met her best friend, life partner, George, at SDSU, in the fall of '65. She hung out up towards the front of the Gumbo. She's had three careers....the second one was the owner of a coffee shop called the Fine Grind, in Lincoln, NE. They live on their lake home, at Lake of the Ozarks, MO. Her folks moved from Pierre to Norfolk, NE the same year we graduated. Her adult journey has taken them from NE to KS, back to NE and then to MO....with a shot of Ft. Eustis, VA mixed in. Actually, if you knew this gal you wouldn't be surprised to hear her say she had three careers...pretty, smart, and silently loud.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Linda Barrett

Quote: "Lloyd sold the firm in 2000, and rode his bike from San Francisco to Portsmouth, NH. ( I hope it was a Harleya and not a Schwinn). Now, he is having a ball working at Ace Hardware." The view from their deck is the historic STanley Hotel, and they have a lovely mountain stream in their backyard. She and a friend just started a quilt pattern design business which can be viewed at www.pimpernellpatterns.com. I remember her and she wasn't nearly as quiet as one might believe. Quote: "It doesn't seem like 40 years but then 2005 minus 1965 equals 40 and that is 'big time math' for me." Always a barrel of laughs. I'm telling you this classmate was into a lot more mischief than you might imagine. I know of some of his capers and, coming from a caper master like me, this guy deserves some awards. A veteran and medic stationed in Seoul, Korea during 1972 and 73, where he worked in the psychiatric ward. After playing in the car parts business and being a professional photographer, he moved to America's Dairyland and now he sells lube oil and grease to anyone in America that will listen and has been a Cenex Man for over 30-years. Married for 22 years, he and Brenda have two sons, 18 and 15. He says he practiced for a long time before having children and this family stuff is OK for an old geezer....his oldest son is an aspiring professional golfer and his younger son is a 'mechanical' type similar to his "Pierre Pacers--Safety First and Speed Second" father.. He says that he and I had some times together that he can't share with his kids yet. If you were to read his bio you can hear his voice and you'd be laughing like me. --SOLVED--SOLVED Bernie Elliott

Mystery Classmate #42. I can't even say anything about this classmate, either, or I'll give her away. The last time I saw her was at the 50th Sturgis Rally, in 1990. I was working at Black Hills Harley Davidson, then, like I am now, and she sauntered up, one hip at a time, and said, "Member me?" I learned at a young age to look around for a spouse of some sort before I respond to questions like that...especially at a motorcycle rally. Sure enough Gary was sitting on his Harley a few feet away with a big grin on his mug. Quote: "I have worked for a beer distributer for the past 27 years..ah, all that beer tasting at those high school key parties certainly prepared me for the beer business..oh, and the fact that I'm half Irish and being born on St. Patrick's Day." Her motto through life has been "I may not be good--but I'm good at it!" She's hanging around the web site...cheers! --SOLVED--SOLVED--Another that was too easy! Patty Kifer

BLOG MEISTER NOTE: We have some lurkers out there, and for one reason or another aren't posting their guesses on the actual blog site--but rather sending them to me VIA email. The idea is to make our mystery classmate guesses on the actual blog site. The process may be unclear so let's go through it again. When you read the mystery classmate descriptions, and think you know the answer, you can post your guess on the blog site by going to the last description entry (in this case--this entry) and scroll down just a couple of lines. You'll see the word 'comments' in ( ), i.e., ( 63 Comments) with a number. Click on that and you'll be able to see all the comments we've gotten on all of the mystery classmates, plus some fun dialogue between different classmates. Currently we have over 60! The most recent guesses are the highest number and at the top of the list. If you want to post your guess just scroll all the way to the bottom and there you'll see the 'comments' format and location for your guesses. Type in your name and enter your guess in the comments section. When you've done that just click on 'Post It'. You'll see a little bar graph that tells you it is posting. You only have to click 'Post It' ONE TIME. It takes a little time so be patient. I have high speed internet and it still takes a couple of minutes...just sit back and watch the bar graph advance. Don't interrupt the process--otherwise it won't take. Then it will tell you your comment has been posted. Each night I update the blog site and make my own comments to your comments. It's fun. This way the rest of us can see the reasons for your guesses. I'd rather have you say, in a few words, what clue in the description prompted you to make the guess you made. The idea is to let us all learn a little about each other before the actual reunion, and to give the people who can't make it to Pierre, a chance to play a little game and see what their classmates have been doing. Try it--you'll like it!

**Hint: May 30, 2005..."prudence" is Helen--classmate #83 was her neighbor.
__________
Mystery Classmate # 84. This classmate is a loyal sports fan and competed for the green and white in most sports. The Post Office took a liking to him and he worked there his whole career. I still see him occasionally, in Rapid City, usually during state basketball tourney time. When you're enjoying your banquet on Saturday night at the Class of '65 Reunion--you can thank him for the arrangments.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Jim Brooks
__________
Mystery Classmate # 85. This guy is another of those mid-west siders--living just a few doors away from the Harding's, and just down the street from Helen Adams. If you were born in Pierre anytime from about 1950 to 1975 there's a pretty good chance someone in this family had something to do with it.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Bruce Askwig
__________
Mystery Classmate # 86. Here was an extremely intelligent individual. I saw him at the 20th but don't remember him being at the 30th. If I remember correctly, though, he told me he was a DA in Winston-Salem, NC. All I really know for sure is that his dad sold me marbles and pea shooters--and was on the school board. This classmate looked like a businessman while we all still looked like teeny boppers.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Bob Brown
__________
Mystery Classmate # 87. Here's another Pierre athlete who became a Pharmacist. But that's not how I remember him mostly. I recall getting a darn good ice cream cone after leaving the Pierre Swimming Pool...and maybe a licorice string for the bike ride home from his parent's place a block from Riverside Park.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Ray Kelly
__________
Mystery Classmate # 88. This mystery classmate was an athlete and you'll see his picture throughout the web site. I first met him at the Pierre Indian School and we went on to become good buddies. He made a career out of the Air Force and retired a Colonel. I know we're in contact with him and hope he gets back for the reunion. I know he was at the 20th. I see his picture in many of the 'grade school' pics on the website...black hair, a huge grin, very intelligent and an all around great guy. It doesn't surprise me he went on to become a leader.--SOLVED--SOLVED--George James
__________
Mystery Classmate # 89. I'm not so sure this mystery classmate didn't go on to become a pharmacist, too. I know he and mystery classmate # 87 were buddies. He had a blue 51 Plymouth and I think his dad was a barber. Carl Schwenn was part of this group, too---if memory serves me correctly. Regardless, he lived just a few houses East of the Methodist Church....played a little football and was always a happy go lucky guy.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Dennis Schnell
__________
Mystery Classmate # 90. Here's a very popular gal in our class--involved in almost everything. Her dad even showed up at our 30th Class Reunion, at the Legion Cabin to say hello to all the classmates, most of home he soaked a reed or two with at Riggs. I accidentally lit her hair on fire in Chemistry Class with an errant buring stick launched from an out of control Bunson Burner. It didn't do much damage but sure orchestrated yet another "moment in time' with me and Mr. Ruzik. This mystery classmate is a hoot and someone should pick up on her name like almost instantly.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Karen Sampson
__________
Mystery Classmate # 91. This classmate hung out over in the Teri Telford, Nancy Gilles, Tom Noble, Darrel sherlie neighborhood...a couple of house up from Pleasant Drive, on the West side of the street. She's been instrumental in the planning of three decades of Riggs Class of '65 Reunions and we're grateful for that. The nursing profession has been her calling. Her first name reminds me of the Thatcher girl in Tom Sawyer.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Becky Meyers
__________
Mystery Classmate # 92. This mystery classmate always reminded me of a little Pixie...blond hair, small and petite, always a beaming smile. I saw her at the 20th Class reunion. By the way how many sets of twins did we have in Riggs...as a bonus question. You'll find her just past the middle of the gumbo, alphabetically, with other classmates with the same last name.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Judy Peterson
__________
Mystery Classmate # 93. This classmate was another one of us 'dam' people. He could be seen on the tumbling team flying over the tops of a three-layer pyramid. He's made Florida his home and we've made contact with him. A Navy veteran, this is another guy (now, Dennis--now's your chance) with 'cool hair'.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Art Tourville
__________
Mystery Classmate # 94. This guy was tall...I mean tall, tall. A very sound scholar who went on, the last I knew, to the Peace Corps. I haven't seen much of this classmate since our days at Rigg's but always hoped to see him show up at a class reunion. Tall might be a hint to one of the sports he played in. All I can personally remember is running the last leg of a 440, and having a lead at the passing of the baton...the closer I got to the finish line, the faster my little legs were churning. All I could hear were these thud, thud, thud sounds of some big guy right on my heels. I came across the fish line first and this mystery classmate was right next to me--taking one stride to my five. Phil Troutner reached out and patted me on the back and I ate about 15 yard so cinders and got the biggest dose of track rash I'd ever seen. This guy was tall!--SOLVED--SOLVED--Jack Robinson
__________
Mystery Classmate # 95. Iolis raised a family of hunters and this mystery classmate was no exception. You might remember him in his old woody Jeep Wagoneer...of 50's vintage. They were another family who lived over in the Elizabeth and Huron street area...just a few houses from Karen Hosman and Zenus Gurley, if memory serves me right. If he didn't take up a career in game and wildlife I'd be surprises or maybe biology---but a regular outdoorsman, he was and I expect still is. Funny guy, an athlete and always good for a laugh.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Jim Riis
__________
Mystery Classmate # 96. This Mystery classmate is the other tall blonde, crew cut kid, other than Jerry Brink. He was a big man on the football team. I wouldn't have wanted to play across the line from him--that's for sure. This classmate was always in a good mood. His older brother was bigger than he was!--SOLVED--SOLVED--Leonard Hicks
__________
Mystery Classmate # 97. Here's a buddy of mine. We did a lot of bowling together with Donnie Specker, Bob Schmit, and Ray Palmer. He always drove 'company cars', Ford Falcon's. A Tyler Street guy, this classmate was one of the magnificentt seven of us who left for boot camp the day after high school. This mystery classmate lives in Boise and is with the Bureau of Land Management. He married a Rigg's graduate. We've been in more pracarious situations than I care to remember--many of them in the Cadillac Limo.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Lyle Mc Coughey
__________
Mystery Classmate # 98. This is a nice guy. He was a grappler for Riggs and was also another 'dam' guy. They didn't grow up in Pierre but he did spend his high school years with us. He lives in Rapid City and is in the financial investment business, for A.G. Edwards. This classmate was also a standout football player...another overall great guy--everybody's friend. --SOLVED--SOLVED--Bob Moore
__________
Mystery Classmate # 99. Here was a cut and dried curve buster when it comes to grade. I think she tried to tutor me in Math. We were in confirmation classes together at the Methodist Church. Now, the head of the French Department, at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. This classmate lived down real close to Teri Telford and just down the street from the Gilles, Meyers, Moble and Shirlee gang...small in stature--big in heart. This is an exceptional gal. You'll find her in the first half of the alphabet.--SOLVED--SOLVED--Pam Hubbard
__________
Mystery classmate # 100. This mystery classmate was a very attractive brunette that lived up by the A & W. Our guys didn't get much of a shot at her since she went out with one of the Hyde boys in Onida and is still happily married to the same guy. I see her pictures in several of the 'grade school' pics on the photo gallery--SOLVED--SOLVED--Cheryl Graves

OK all you RASCALS, I am finally catching on. Days ago I guessed Karen for #81. I'm saving all my stories for the reunion so see you all then.

Now we're cooking--what took you guys so long? Warren sent me his speeding ticket and a short rendition of the incident. Patty Kifer, who was driving Sandy Gordon's car, told me a completely different story...this was a lover's quarrel that ended up in traffic court. if it's any consolation, Warren, that old black '59 plymouth and I had a couple dates with the magistrate, too.
You all can continue this conversation on this Part 2 or carry it over to Part 3. But, tonight I'm creating Part 3. Two is getting to big and takes to much time to post. Everybody is welcome. I'll go back and check Part two everyday to make sure we didn't leave anybody back there. Three weeks.
Penne---I don't know what your problem is with John Biebelheimer. I told you his story. He's a real person. Should I ask him to email you?
Warren, you catching some poo poo here. Stand up for your rights. If you want dirt on Jerry--I have lots of it. Penne has the goods on Gaylord. It looks like we need to nick Dennis a couple of times, though. Have you noticed that Sally is staying clear? She doesn't want any collateral damage.

I sure hope John B. is still with us, I told Peggy Maher that if for some reason I didn't show up, and remembering what a titewad Beibelheimer was, that she should go out to the parking lot and bring in his wife in for dinner at the Ramkota. He'd make her sit out there till dinner was done B4 she could come in.

Penny, I too have some stories on " W. Homer Huber " Most of them are unprintable. I do remember in grade school, when we would gather at Warrens house and hang out too long, his mother would grab a broom and literally sweep us out the back door, tell us to go do something, today parents hardly let kids out of the house. Kinda different huh!

you don't mean Karen, do you? I thought I knew that she & Darwin were out in the hills years ago, but I lost them after the flood, and don't know if they're still together-It's news to me that she & Terry Varelik are related.

I've had a lot of egg on my face, but it's that plethera stuff on my shoe that worries me.
Give you $55 to tell'em. Can remember mornings @ Riggs, me, Douglas, Vanderpol, and whoever else we could get would line the sides of the hall. Homer & Sandy would have to walk in through us and every one in unison would say "HI HOMER'. That guy could turn the brightest shade of red you'd ever want to see. The blonde hair must have accented it.

Ok Gaylord you're off the hook - maybe? But I remember in second grade your brother knocking me down in the snow on the way home from school and filling my boots with snow - Boyd had a come to jesus with Earl & Clayten got a good whooping. I know some Homer Huber stories - and would be happy to share them if there's any interest out there. Remember those days, Warren? $50 bucks and I keep my mouth shut??? It's very frustrating that I won't be at the reunion to get into more details - and it was Jose Plethora - not Juan - and #37 - it wouldn't stick to your face.! and I still don't believe there's really a John Biebelheimer!

Speaking of NFL players, doesn't old Cliff Schweigert have a son (Stuart) with a pro team out on the west coast. I think it was the tean that traded for Randy Moss-----Oregon? ? ? the kid is quite a bit younger than us but it's my understanding he was pretty sensational in college and has quite a following of fans from SD.

Gaylord---I think that is a wise move....Penne sounds inspired. Hell hath no fury like that of an inspired woman! Thanks for the Larcheid information. I was riding yesterday through Spearfish Canyon and I saw the 'Think' sign at the site of the accident. Reflect time. Maybe we'll have another NFL kicker out of SD. Northwestern has been playing some good football. Division 1 is not an easy task.
OK, Penne, all bets are off. I'm going to side with Gaylord. It sounds like he's waving the white flag of truce....under the circumstances, a smart move.
later....pm
**I made a mistake on the #81 mystery classmate. She isn't related to a Pierre reunion committee member...but, does have a cousin in our class who is usually involved in reunion planning. I'd look for the last name. It could be between 'U' and 'W'. Sheesh!

Okay I was out of the office yesterday afternoon (yes golfing)so I have some catching up to do. No Paul I will not get in a contest with Penne and if you know her as well as I do you will know why I won't, I couldn't win that, but I can still share stories from as far back as the mid fifties, but I don't have any pictures. I agree with you Jerry they should quit using those big words, I never learned those in college, we just needed two words, Pabst and Bud. Those everyone understood. My boss still drinks Pabst, emagine that. I had forgot all about Terry Brown, but you guys were correct he could run about a mach 2. I was so slow I never did get to see much of him. I am very close friends with Lee Larscheid, Marks brother and yes I think Marks high hurdle record will stand long after I am pushing up daisys. His death was a very tragic one. Lee's wife is Carol West and they both graduated in the class of 67 and we have been close friends ever since they were married in 1970. Lee owns a ticket agency in Branson, Missouri. He comes up every July and plays golf with me in our annual member guest tourney for over 20 years. Usually around the first weekend in July Mary Larscheid has been having a golf tourney at Spearfish to raise scholarship money in Marks name. His son is a great field goal kicker at Northwestern University, watch for him this FB season. Okay enough rambling, but Paul forget the challenge with Penne, I can't win that and you know it.

Tonight I will build a NEW Blog. This will be Part 3. No different than the first two, though. We've got 100 mystery classmates on Part 2, and the first seven on Part 1. Are you bloggers paying attention? Part 2 is getting too long and requires a lot of scrolling. Knowing the classmates who are participating I realize this is a difficult task. I'll also put a bunch of mystery classmates on the new Blog. I've gotten some in the mail, but most are going to be the remaining classmates. You'll have to reach deep into your memories and search the web site for the answers. Our intention is to have something out there on each of the members of our class....and there is only a few weeks left until we'll all be in Pierre.
**Stephanie, Warren and Tom Noble are 'lurking'. And, I suspect there are many more lurkers, too. Razz these people a little bit and get them to 'come clean' and post on the blog site like every one else.
Tomorrow morning look for Blog Site, Part 3. In the meantime, figure out #81 -- I don't like to 'carry over'....it reminds me of high school math and that is a scary thought for us artistic types!

OK--this is the last hint for mystery classmate # 81. But, first lets review. Works with Cathleen, Forest Service People, part time job in Pierre was at the airport cafe, has a cousin also in our class (maybe the last name is the same--Duh!), brown hair, cute, petite, and towards the end of the alphabet.
**What happend to you people over Memorial Day weekend---you've been lame ever since! When we've solved this classmate I'll start a new Blog..Part 3.

It occurred to me that maybe you were getting tired of scrolling to find the latest classmate. If that's the case--let me know and I'll make a mystery classmate Part 3! It was Mark Larscheid (Mary Neiber's husband) that died in the car accident in Spearfish Canyon, and Terry Brown left Pierre and moved to Chicago when we were in 9th grade - I remember because he was Bob Brown's best friend and I had a crush on him. I'm just a plethora of information - just ask me something - and I've got pictures. Wanna see em, Gaylord?
Penne---How do you know all this stuff? Between you and Sally....there isn't anything you can't figure out!..I'm liking the Gaylord challenge deal. Didn't Juan Plethora play shortstop for the '74 Yankees? Let's see the pictures. You had a crush on Terry Brown? How could you catch him. The guy was a running fool. I wonder if he 'ran' to Chicago. I'll bet if you look in the Illinois state record book, in 1965, you'll find Terry Brown's name next to the 100, 220, or 440 yard dash.

Warren Huber guessed mystery classmate # 81 but I'm not posting her name until Warren does it on the blog site....them's the rules.
hint: Cathleen says her and the mystery classmate are NOT running with Smokey Bear...but would rather be called Forest Service People. Her part time job was at the Airport Cafe.

Terry Brown- another of our more "rounded" classmates. I remember him having little-bitty feet that were a virtual blur when he ran. Big or small, by far the fasted kid I ever ran against.
Not a real ego booster to compete against him.
Yes...Terry Brown. I was right. I remember taking the blocks against him in a hundred yarder and all I saw was tail lights...and, I had a little speed....and you could put a glass of water on his head and it wouldn't spill. I think he was bionic.
jer said @ 06/01/2005 12:39 PM CST
Sorry...Penne and Judy HOFFMAN will be attending a family reunion in Bend, OR at the same time as our 40th. I was reading Schumacher's bio this morning and got confused. I have so many names running around in my head that sometimes I get screwed up--imagine that!
Gaylord, it sounds like Penne has the goods on you. I think I'll prompt her for some inside scoops...I know she'll accomodate.
So, Gaylord, how does a golf addict handle his game and a two-year old grandkid at the same time? I suppose you got one of those baby 'snugglies' and backpacked the kid around all three rounds...it's called 'golf bonding'! ha ha
You never were the quickest, Gaylord...but you made up for it in style. I remember Dave Lindekugle getting thrown out at first on a well hit single to right center field...out by a mile. I can say that because Dave and I joke about that particular play...and his lack of speed. But, if you'll remember, just like his boys, if Dave connected with one--you could start looking in the ditch, by the RR tracks--behind the centerfield wall!! But, when Dennis and I talk about Karen Hosman's speed...I remember...she was right on Terry Brown's rear in a hundred yard dash. (?) Was that his name? Terry Brown? Do you know who I'm talking about. I don't think he graduated with us but I remember someone with a name like that who was QUICK! Also, speaking of track and field, I noticed that the 2005 SD State High School Track meet had some record breakers....but, nobody will touch Pierre's Lee Larcheid (Leap) in the 100 yd/110 m hurdles...he's still hanging on to a state record since 1969. Unfortunately he was killed in a car accident in Spearfish canyon, but what you maybe didn't know is that his son was within a few hundreths of a second from breaking his dad's record, at Spearfish High School. And, of course, nobody is going to take George Amundson out on the discus..not in our lifetime. For those who can't remember, the Amundson's were Pierre boys until they moved to Aberdeen.
And, Jerry, great memory. Yes, we called Bob Doren, 'Bubbles'. I saw him come into the room at the Legion Cabin, for our 30th and -- I ain't kidding -- he filled the doorway. I've called him Mr. Doren since that time. We did talk him into taking a swig of pure cinamon oil extract once. He liked to have killed us. He's pretty darned fast when he's inspired...but, when you're as scared for your life as we were---well, adrenaline is a wonderful self-preservation chemical. Mr. Doren was 'breathing fire' that afternoon out back of Capitol Texaco...I didn't look back until I rounded the corner by the Corner Drug. One of those 'life or death' situations. ha ha

Sonnenschein, on your worst day, I can out tell stories about you two to one!
**Editor's Note: I'm thinking I'd like to see Penne and Gaylord go at it in a 'ranking out' contest. Gaylord, she says she can two to one you....OK, you tell one good story and let's see if she had two for a comeback!

A real blast to be around. Her father, Boyd was one of my best friends and yes certainly was a Ford Man. Just a good gues on John, deductive reasoning I guess. Dennis I don't remember Karen Hosman as a speedster but then as slow as I was everyone went by me. I was also in the guards with her brother. I was in Minneapolis this past weekend for my grandson's 2nd birthday and got in 3 rounds of golf on some nice courses. Tuning up for (I hate to say this) the Senior two man state tournament in Pierre this Friday and Sat. So bring your A game when you come. Actually, if I would have leaked just one or two of the many things I know about Penne and her high school escapades--she'd have been guessed immediately. Penne won't be at the reunion. Jerry, you wrote in my yearbook,"To the best marching pardner anyone could ask for". I know I wasn't in the marching band. No, your not in trouble for not remembering. And, yes, Clayton Theobald's, brother did marry Linda Ice (Aviation family).

Paul-
Lyle McCoy had a caddy hearst that on occasion was known to carry a fake casket with a beer keg inside on top. You guys were buddies. It' my guess he's #97
Lyle Mc Caugher is correct. We had a lot of good times in the 'Limo'.

#89 Dennis Schnell, friend with Ray Kelly am not sure if his dad was a barber or not
Also, Jerry I agree with you on #95 Jim Ries (believe my nephew happen to run into him somewhere in Pierre and had a chat with him)Jim if you are out there his name is Brett Meadors.
Jerry do you remember who you marched in with at graduation?
RIGHT again! Dennis and Jim....I'm running out of names. You guys are too good!
sally m said @ 05/29/2005 10:44 AM CST
Here's some more Paul,
#74 Clayton Theobald, clue Aviation
#86 Bob Brown, think I remember him being a DA or something in law
#98 (if #37 meant #98 for Bob Moore) I agree with you #37.
Will do a little more studying for the rest.
**You guys are too sharp for me. It sounds like Jerry and Sally are tag teaming everybody else. I like the cooperation. Keep it up! Clayton, Bob Brown and Bob Moore are correct answers.
sally m said @ 05/29/2005 10:27 AM CST

I think I have solved a few of the new entries, #73, Teri Telford; #70 Jim Riis; #75 Mary Van Camp; #78 Maryellen Kleinsasser; #83, Bruce Askwig; #87, Ray Kelly; #90, Karen Sampson; #95, Betsy Kelly; #100, Cheryl Graves. So, how did I do? It is fun to read 'between the lines' and try to remember 'way back then'. I'll leave a few for someone else to identify. Jean
Jean checks in with some winners---although she sent them by email. Correct on Teri, Mary, Maryellen, Ray, Karen and Cheryl..but you're off on Jim Riis, Bruce Askwig, and Betsy Kelly. Keep at it! You're doing great.

#77 mike Suiter, plillips 66 and the big grin. Has to be him. # 80 Clayton Theobald maybe, should be more sure. just cant think of anyone else living by the brown church.
Mike Suiter is correct but you missed on #80. The Little Brown church is just a ways past metro Hayes.

good job Sally, you poicked off a few I had gotten, but was too late. # 77 is Greg white I remember leaving his driveway headed west to Hayes burning rubber for about 50 yds as we reached about 8000 rpm the flywheel exploded sending a huge chunk of steel past my face and out through the passenger window.. and thats not all I could tell you about Greg. hope he comes to the reunion, I think he lives in Denver?? # 69 I will venture a guess as Phil Hanson, same first name as coach Phil. #76 Mark Vanderpol, dont know if you know this Paul, the motorcycle you bought from Mark was the one I had, and I bought it from john Simon, who bought it from Don Beebee. # 87 is Ray Kelly , We always stopped at his dads ice cream shop after swimming. This one Im not sure of at all # 94 Jack Robinson. just because he was tall I guess.
Dennis--you got Greg right....very good on Phil Hanson, Mark, Ray and Jack. Those were some more difficult ones. Good work! I didn't know the legacy of my 650 Triumph--now I know. I also can't remember who I sold it to. All I know is that I'm the one who figured out how to fine tune it and when I did my dad took it away.

Just scanning the mystery classmates and here is what I came up with:
# 65 Warren Huber, Hot Air Balloons" worked at Raven
#70 Dick Harding, helicopter pilot
#75 Renee Long, lives in Mpls, riding in a convertible
#76 Mark VanderPool, believe I saw a comment from you Paul that you bought a motorcycle from him
#79 Randy LaBeau works for BIA and played a guitar
#82 Jeff Peterson, Doctor
*84 Jim Brooks, retired from post office
#85 Bruce Askwig, father was a doctor
#88 George James, Retired from Air Force
#90 Karen Sampson, remember her dad coming to the reunion
#91 Becky Myers, nurse
#92 Judy Peterson, twin
#93 Art Tourville, "cool hair" and reference to Dennis to shine now
#96 Leonard Hicks "blonde and tall"
#99 Pam Hubbard, thought she lived in Lincoln NE and is a professor
#100 Cheryl Graves, married Dick Hyde
I will work on the rest later.
Sally, slow down! I can't keep up with you. I spend three hours logging the mystery classmates and in two minutes you blow me out of the water. ha ha You missed #75 by guessing Renee Long...It's Mary Van Camp.
sally m said @ 05/28/2005 08:02 AM CST
I am going to take a stab at #28 Gordon Caldwell - he was a wrestler and maybe "grapple" has something to do with a wrestling.
What did you think 'grapple' meant, Sally? ha ha. This is a good guess. Gordy Caldwell knocked on my door, while the moving van was still moving them into the house across the street, and asked if I would be his friend. that was 1952. Gordy and I are still close friends...now, going on 53-years. Gordy is on a Christian Mission Trip, for three years, in Uganda. I just got an email from him yesterday. He is, in fact, an exceptional person.
sally m said @ 05/27/2005 08:49 AM CST
How about Judy Rilling for #29
EXCELLENT!!! This was a hard one. Warren Huber guessed it, too, VIA email. But, according to the time submitted, Gaylord beat him to the draw.
Gaylord Sonnenschein said @ 05/27/2005 08:00 AM CST
THIS IS COOL! We have the actual mystery classmate, # 37, commenting to guesses by Sally...and giving her more hints. Finally she guesses that it is Jerry Brink and not Leonard Hicks. AND, over on the comments section of the web site we have Jean Myers hooking up with long time friend, Marta Cano AND making plans to get together in Georgia. Jean made this connection because she saw Carl Schwenn and Marta talking about their prom date together....AND that all happened because someone on the Pierre Reunion Committee and the 'Get Connected' team found Marta and Carl out there in the 'Real World'....AND, that Marta and Carl were motivated enough to look at the web site...And the same goes for Jean. AND, Jan Neuharth, one of your 'Get Connected' team members is going to have coffee with Cynthia Bowers, this Sunday, in Texas. AND, AND, AND...how many more friendships and memories are going to be rekindled, after FORTY years. This might sound like small spuds to some people, but in this fast-paced world where four decades of time have tendered it's distance on Riggs High School Class of '65, there is magical and downright COOL things going on here. As for us on the Get Connected Team, we think this is absolutely amazing and are proud to be a part of it.

Final guess on #37 then is Jerry Brink, don't know anything about his fastball and don't even know if he has a brother or a "dam" person. If I am wrong again I give up.#37 identify yourself.

Not fair Warren Huber, get on the blog, so we can harass you a little, good job w/ cheryl stageberg. Your neighbor and teacher in Mn. # 47 is Diane Davis. If you hadnt spent toooo! much time @ the train bridge, you would have got that one?
GOOD ONE! Diane Davis is correct. Warren wasn't 'on' the train bridge...but he did get hooked up with a salty speeding ticket for racing Patty Kifer, in Sandy Gordon's Chrysler stationwagon...in the 'Batmobile' '59 Plymouth which I shortly thereafter bought from him for $750. What Warren didn't know was that Gordon's 'sleeper' wagon had a big block Chrysler mill and Warren was sporting a 318. Parent's used to do that...buy an old foggies car and stack it up with bunches of horsepower. Bruce Askwig's dad used to buy Chryslers with 426 hemi-wedges.
ddouglas said @ 05/26/2005 04:56 PM CST
Ok # 29 is Carol Nelson. blonde, quiet and "now and then" picture.
Paul, are they going to post those past reunion pictures? Maybe if I saw those I could remember who we all thought had "changed the most".
NOPE! Not Carol Nelson...but a good guess. This mystery classmate was even quieter than Carol. Apparently there are those on the mystery classmate blog who disagree with my 'hair color' descriptions, namely Dennis, who's hung up on Strawberry Blonde. #29 might have had brown hair and not blonde. But, you could never tell with these 65'ers...they changed hair color every week. #29 liked scarves...or is that scarfs....you know, the decorative shawl-like deal that young women wore around their necks....no, not a noose...a scarf. ha ha
Gaylord came in on Friday with the correct guess at mystery classmate # 29...Judy Rilling Another tough one, Gaylord. Good research. Did you find the scarf in her senior picture?
sally m said @ 05/26/2005 03:49 PM CST
I am going to guess #37 as Leonard Hicks, crewcut, blonde and tall. I looked in the yearbood and under his name it says "He's blonde and tall, but that ain't all". Hope I got this right and Gaylord I didn't have any help from anybody.
WRONG, again! Leonard wasn't a 'dam person' If you west-siders would have had the moxey to come over to the NW corner of town you'd know this mystery classmate. In fact, the mystery classmate even commented on your guess and is flattered. I'll have to admit it does sound like Leonard. But, I never tasted Leonard's fast ball to the side like I did mystery classmate # 37. This guy had a 90 mph fastball at 12 years old. He missed his calling.....well, maybe not...he worked for a beer brewery most his career and now tells 'fish' stories, in his spare time.
sally m said @ 05/26/2005 03:45 PM CST
This guess is probably a stretch. # 58 is Jerry Black. Gaylord should have gotten this one, I know he has had a donut or two in his day, and still has a 2 handicap?
Good guess. You're right, Jerry Black....he put in 30-years at French's Bakery, in Pierre. I was going to challenge Gaylord to this one--but you got the dig in before I got to him. Jerry was the local producer of diet pills, in Pierre for three decades.
ddouglas said @ 05/26/2005 02:28 PM CST
#49 is cheryl stageberg, I think the Sioux Falls connection helped me on this guess, I remember her more strawberry blond, you are getting tricky Paul.
GOOD GUESS, DENNIS....I make the rules here...blonde is blonde...besides, your eye sight and memory has to have gotten a little weak in forty years. Strawberry blonde wasn't even a legitimate color until the 70's. HA HA Warren Huber beat you to the draw BUT he posted VIA email instead of on the web site. Warren--get on the web!
ddouglas said @ 05/26/2005 02:17 PM CST
Okay Sally, I got up extra early on this one. Kind of embarrassed it took me this long. I got some help from a co-worker that lives in Ft.Pierre and graduated from Ft.Pierre in 1975 (just a kid) and I also talked with Gary Bren who just retire a couple of years ago after 30+ years in the computer department for the State. #59 is Anna May(Hoeppner)Masteller. How about that Paul
I'm amazed! This was a difficult mystery classmate. Good work. I wondered if you were going to ask Gary.
Gaylord Sonnenschein said @ 05/26/2005 01:07 PM CST
Okay I am making a guess but I did do some digging and I am going to guess Linda Rieger is #50.
That was a difficult one....Sally took a shot at it but was off....#50 IS Linda Rieger. Gaylord is doing his homework, a habit most football and basketball players at Riggs had a problem with. ha ha
Gaylord Sonnenschein said @ 05/26/2005 11:40 AM CST
As you can see I have the day off from work, so have really been studying the mystery classmates. I am going to guess #50 Carol Nelson, Blonde and on the "now and then". Maybe their was a Nelson Electric and common first name.
Also, correction on Jean Myers, Husband was class of 64 not 65.
WRONG on # 50, SALLY. Gaylord nailed it with the help of some Pierre and Ft. Pierre research. #50 is Linda Rieger.

EXCELLENT, SALLY. That was a hard one to guess. Dennis has been struggling with it all week. You found Don Roed...the cool hair guy.

We know there are some lurkers out there and for some reason or another don't want to post their guesses on the blog site--but rather send them to me VIA email. Maybe it's because the process is unclear. First, when you read the mystery classmates' descriptions you can go to the bottom of the list--right after the last entry and 'click' on (comments)...read all the comments and guesses from other classmates. If you scroll to the bottom of the comments you'll see a place where you can enter a comment---just like I'm doing right now. The Early Bird gets the Worm...Gaylord has figured out a way to beat Dennis and Sally to the punch. He gets his guesses in at 6:44 in the morning! Yes on both counts...#63 is Nancy and #62 is Paul Forney. And, nobody has guessed #60 except one of the 'get connected' team and we're not eligible. So, Gaylord, who is mystery classmate # 60?
Gaylord Sonnenschein said @ 05/25/2005 06:44 AM CST

dennis, I think you're right on #57 DelRay Pool. He was is Sioux Falls. Hope he's at the reunion. We (Pierre and SDSU friends) got him kicked out of his apartment. Loud party or something. Remember,Sally and Linda Barrett?
Now, this mystery classmate's description so far could be DelRay Pool BUT that isn't the mystery classmate. Although, the apartment party story is a good one! Nancy, Sally and Linda...wild women. ha ha
**You all are getting to used to easy to guess mystery classmates...this one is a little harder. You probably didn't know this guy real well....and he didn't live in Pierre all his life, either. But, he did do high school there. He's in the Gumbo. He'll be on the Vet's page by tomorrow....and he had 'cool hair' AND you should look for him in the last half of the Gumbo. Now, you all should be able to hone in on this guy.

Just came to me, # 57 has to be Delray Pool. I think I remember him being in Sioux Falls. He had cool hair also. If not Im out of cool hair guys.
HAHAHA--got you stumped don't I? OK, tonight I'll post some hints on the more difficult ones. The 'cool hair' guy might have had the coolest hair in the class. He's a Viet Nam vet and has been with John Morrell for over 30 years. You're close with Del Ray---he had cool hair, too--and is in the Sioux Falls area. I'll have the web meister post this 'cool dude' on the Vet's page yet tonight....he isn't there right now. But, if you'd look at each picture in the Gumbo (try the last half first) you'll spot this 'cool hair' dude. I don't think he lived in Pierre all his school years but I do know he was there all through high school---pretty quiet. I knew him pretty good. He hung out with Ronnie Ray and our group---sort of a motor head but a real talented individual. Keep looking!

well Paul, I see Burt had a calling we were not aware of a sheep farmer??? Gaylord brings out the best in you! How about some more hints on the tough ones??
Heck, yes. The first time I was in Burt and Bernies house on Tyler they had a lamb in the basement that they brought back from Fredrick. The Elliott homestead is in Fredrick (Burt is now a State Representative from that District). They were bottle feeding this lamb and drinking beer. Gaylord is usually right--but not this time.

Just got back from lunch and had a minute in my hectic Monday morning to take a guess at a few more of the new entries
#49 Judy Hoffman
#50 Cheryl Graves
#51 Darrel Scherlie
#52 John Ryterik
#55 Kathy Specker
#56 Sharon Beastrom
Sally---you know the rules...you gotta tell me a little bit about why you chose the mystery classmates, you choose. We'd like to know what hints were the 'give-a-way' hints. You're right on Darrell, Kathy and Sharon. Stephanie Clinton beat you to the draw on John and Judy and Cheryl are not the right answers for #49 and # 50. So, guess again, my friend. You should be able to nail #49--just look in the then and now section. Most all the mystery classmates have submitted a 'then and now' pic.
sally m said @ 05/23/2005 10:52 AM CST
Paul, I will try again w/ the cool hair guy.# 57 is Art Tourville. Also Im not very sure on this guess. # 55 is Cathy Specker.
Good shot on Kathy Specker, Dennis. You'd have to agree she was 'into' almost anything that was going on at Riggs...we're looking forward to seeing her at the 40th.
BUT, you blew it again on the 'cool hair' guy. I agree, though, Art Tourville did have cool hair. Look in the Gumbo and check out the hairdo's---this guy had "Cool" hair. #57 is not Art.

sally m said @ 05/18/2005 04:41 PM CST
Okay Sally, you can't have Rita all to yourself, I had it half right. I told you I could never keep them straight, what I really meant was Rita. And I am not sleeping with my Gumbo but I plan on starting.
All this time I thought Rita and Josephine were twins...Cathleen tells me that Jan said they weren't. Actually, all I really know for sure is that popcorn was only 15 cents and they both were popcorn pushers at the State Theater. Paul
Ha Ha Cathy: "Gaylord, what the hell is this in the bed?"

You know the ones that banged when you hit a bump. Yes he was good and I too am sorry he is gone to a place much simpler. He will be missed.
SOLVED--Gaylord says Dennis isn't playing fair...ha ha. If you would have missed Rich we would have had to conduct a special meeting of the 'get connected team' to see if you should be put on probation, or not. But, you came through like a champ. yes, on Rich Adams.

sorry I have to pick off an easy one for me. #38 is Gary Bren, He is still one of my best friends. I have lots of stories about Gary, but will save them for the reunion. Will have to study the rest for a while. GOOD JOB PAUL!
SOLVED--SOLVED--Dennis always goes after the 'cherries' first. I didn't think Gary would last long.

The brick house was the give away for me on Helens, I remebered where she lived and I think I picked her up there on a date or two. Sorry Helen.
Excellent, Gaylord...I'm running out of brick houses. Didn't Helen share a driveway with Courtney Flateau? I used to marvel at his electronic do-dads on his car. I'm sorry he is no longer with us. I promised his mom a 'Memory Book' and a DVD.
Gaylord Sonnenschein said @ 05/16/2005 01:44 PM CST
correction I meant #28 Carl Schween, must have been asleep when entering my numbers
You're still asleep, Sally, # 28 isn't Carl Schwenn
sally m said @ 05/14/2005 10:07 AM CST
Paul, I picked Leonard Hick just because I thought I remembered he lived in Washington State--Bad Guess on all my choices. I will have to work harder on this. After rereading some this AM I am picking #34 as Carl Schwenn, if my memory is correct I think he was one that had changed the most. Wish I hadn't sent those pictures to you they might have helped me haha. Nancy great to see you on board--your doing great. By the way, I do sleep. Can't believe I didn't pick up on Tom Maher.
sally m said @ 05/14/2005 06:50 AM CST
There's still plenty of names to go. This is fun, huh? For all you people out there 'lurking' why don't you jump in and take some guesses...as you can see we feed off of each other. Which means that when you make a guess explain a little about why you made it...so if you're wrong the next person can use your logic and maybe make a correct guess. We're not making these too difficult because the idea is to let you know a little about your classmates. But, some of them are going to require some 'teamwork'. Some of them you might not have known too well, at Riggs. If you're guessing or lurking and haven't submitted a bio yourself---shame on you. Send one in and get legit. Folks (that's what you are when you're in your mid-fifties--folks), we've done a lot of research regarding this web site and have looked at a lot of web sites of other high school classes. Riggs High Class of 1965 has one of the classiest web sites in the entire country. Get involved and be part of this adventure. While you're at it go on over to the 'comments' section on the main menu and let us know what you think. We get off on those comments. It's how we get paid! And leave your email address so we can stalk you!

This is stretching it. Monte Michaelson # 32. Tom Maher #34.
Sally, Dennis--do you guys sleep??
It might be stretching it Nancy, but you are absolutely correct on both counts. Good Guessing!
nancy gilles said @ 05/13/2005 06:58 PM CST
Benn studying the yearbook and came up with these #25 Leonard Hicks, #29 Judy Robinson, # 34 Carl Schwenn
Sally, what makes you think #25 is Leo Hicks? Wrong answer. And #29 is not Judy Robinson. AND, #34 is not Carl Schwenn. I didn't think I'd see the day when Sally took three shots and got no ducks, but cold, cold hands.
sally m said @ 05/13/2005 04:53 PM CST
great to see nancy getting some picks in
, Gaylord I do remember the ice rink and high jump pit. I can tell you dana`s dad was the coolest.
one more pick on the coolest hair. #32 Art Tourville.
Once again, a great guess. Art did have cool hair...But, go the the classmates Gumbo pictures on the web site and check out Monte Michaelson...cool hair! We have heard from Art, though. He's in Florida. You're on the right track.
ddouglas said @ 05/13/2005 04:27 PM CST
wild guess here. is #8 Gordon Caldwell.
That's an excellent guess on Gordy...but, no, #8 is Harlow Hyde.
ddouglas said @ 05/13/2005 03:06 PM CST
#25 is david lindecoogle, boy ive been reading toomuch of Sallys spelling.
WRONG! # 25 is NOT Dave Lindekugle...An Art Collector? Kugle? I don't think so. Good try.
ddouglas said @ 05/13/2005 02:51 PM CST
I am a little late in this answer but I knew Flannery was first in Investments and then started buying motels. I worked with him on one in Pierre for a while, many years ago. I read the e-mail that David Rivoire sent you so that was a given for me. You have some great ones going, doing a great job. Oh and I remember those serious ball games on the capital grounds very vividly. East Pierre against West sometimes. Hey Dennis do you remember the ice skating rink Dana had in his back yard and I think a high job pit.
Gaylord sonnenschein said @ 05/13/2005 08:50 AM CST
I misstated, I meant was #33 Helen Adams. Don't have a clue on
#30
Bingo on Helen. I thought I gave very limited clues on Helen. How did you guess? Fireball? Brick House?
Gaylord Sonnenschein said @ 05/13/2005 08:35 AM CST
All Right--We have a new player. Nancy Gilles comes into the mystery classmates scene with both barrels blasting and take a run a three classmates, nailing two of them. Keep it up. We like healthy competition.
Also, Ed Colleran was lurking out there and submitted a guess at mystery classmate #17...VIA email, and he's right on--JIM VAN CAMP. I got some new bio's today and a lot more promises for more.
Mystery Meister said @ 05/12/2005 10:46 PM CST
Really guessing here--Paul I think you gave it away to me a few months ago. Lyle Stuart is #31.
You have a very good memory, Nancy. Yes, we did talk about the Holiday Inn Lounge at the 20th...Lyle Stuart is # 31.
nancy gilles said @ 05/12/2005 07:03 PM CST
I'm wrong--Tom Noble is 27
You're right on Tom Noble, Nancy, but Sally the whiz kid beat you to the draw.
nancy gilles said @ 05/12/2005 06:58 PM CST
Hey-- Paul Sherburne is #1, Harlow Hyde #2, Cathleen Ducey #26, & Tom Noble #17--if I'm doing this right. Sally and Dennis you're too fast for me.
Nancy is cooking now! Yes, on Harlow, #2, Paul is #1, and Cathleen Ducey is #26. Sally beat you to the draw on Tom Noble, # 17. You guys are GOOD! I think I'll toughen these up a little bit.
**Penne thinks John Biebelheimer is a prank. Not true! He came to Riggs from Toledo, with only two months left in the school year. His dad was with the Corps of Engineers. He'd attended a private school in Ohio--I remember him. No pic in the Gumbo and for some reason he wasn't at graduation, but he was at one of the class reunions.
nancy gilles said @ 05/12/2005 06:35 PM CST
#17 David Lindekugel
Good try, Sally, but no cigar....Dave isn't #17....try again! I'll update your correct guesses tonight.
sally m said @ 05/12/2005 10:42 AM CST
Hey, when you mention Smokey Bear on mystery classmate #26, it must mean the classmate is in the New Mexico area. Why????Because Capitan, NM claims to be the "home" of Smokey the Bear. Am I close?
You got Smoky Bear's home right. He was the real deal, back in the 30's, rescued from a forest fire in NM. The number one recognized animated icon on the planet. They say 90% of all American's recognize his slogan. The Hill City, SD Rangers are the only high school in the country who have the U.S. Forest Service's permission to use the exact green and yellow FS colors as their school colors, have Smoky as their mascot and are permitted to hold their graduation and Prom activities at Mt. Rushmore, in return for the school fighting forest fires back in the early 1950's. However, this mystery classmate is not in the NM area.

#20 Will try again Patty Keyes, Im thinking she was a lifeguard. Sally I know youre right on Ed Colleran. Send me an e-mail.
Good one, Dennis. I figured someone would pick up on the lifeguard deal. yes, Patty Keys, is mystery classmate # 20
ddouglas said @ 05/12/2005 07:49 AM CST
Dennis, I'll bet you a beer I am dead right with #19. Also here's some more #21 Becky Ward and #27 Tom Noble.
Sally's on a roll....but she has an advantage. She sleeps with the Gumbo in an effort to get some subliminal hints. Right again, on Becky Ward and Tom Noble, Sally, but NANCY GILLES beat you on Tom Noble. Nancy is an early riser and very sharp at the mystery classmates game.
OPPS! I take that back, Sally. You did beat Nancy on the Tom Noble guess. Sorry.
sally m said @ 05/11/2005 04:48 PM CST
Good try guys with the John Biebelheimer again this reunion - I bought it at the 30th - probably the 20th, but not this time. Good try Brooks and Mitchell, no cigar.
Hey, John Biebelheimer was no joke. His dad transfered to Pierre, with the Corps of Engineers, with only two months left in the school year...he had been enrolled in a private school in Toledo. This guy really graduated with us, but he missed the Gumbo pictures, and wasn't present at graduation.
Penne Bloom said @ 05/11/2005 04:10 PM CST
I think Sally is wrong on #19 Im gonna say itis Delray Pool, You are dead on with Nancy Gilles, remember her moms car, was the first front wheel drive in Pierre, w/ a cigarette burn on the back seat. Also Im thinking # 14 is Sally metzinger.
You're right on Sally Metzinger being #14. I knew I had Nancy pegged. She told me the cigarette burn story herself.
douuglas said @ 05/11/2005 03:07 PM CST
one more then I must get to work--# 19 Ed Colleran
SOLVED--Right again, Sally. Becky's brother, Bill Ward (Brady's men's Wear) is married to my little sis, Valerie (Riggs '68).
sally m said @ 05/11/2005 11:32 AM CST
Just after lunch and I have a down moment--so will put my answers in for #16 Nancy Gilles #18 Linda Johnson, the brick house gave it away. More guesses later.
Is that your final answer? This might be a trick question. Actually Sally got both of these mystery classmates correct. GOOD WORK!
sally m said @ 05/11/2005 11:14 AM CST
#20 interesting, good looking tall blond, has to be Judy Hoffman. She probably wont remember, but she taught me how to skip in grade school. you know that awkward walking, running, hopping, movement. Im probably the only guy I know that can skip. Better get to work Later.
**Good try but wrong answer. This is going to be a bit more difficult. We did have more than one tall, pretty blonde, though. Judy was a good guess. Take off on the 'swimming' hint. She was a lifeguard at the municipal pool. Hey, I can skip, too. I had an older sister. I recall a lot of people with that awkward walking, running, hopping movement--usually at keggers, at Farm Island..ha ha

one more I will take a stab at. The only person who referred to himself as a DAM person that I know is Paul Mitchell, I met Paul at an early age playing in the storm culverts and harassing the old Hermit, nobody else ever did that. not sure but #22 is paul mitchell.
**Dennis, the reason you're not sure is because most of it is malarky...I was trying to trick the readers. I wasn't a grade curve buster and I wasn't quiet and reserved. The rest of it was pretty much right on...especially the quote. We called those storm culverts, 'Cool Man's Cave'...and 'Hermie', the hermit who lived in the cave and tarpaper shack. He was an interesting dude...and he was a mean sucker, too. I've gotten a lot of copy from my old Housing Area friends regarding Hermie. The rest of the mystery classmates are legit, though. You covered a lot of ground from Washington Street to the West Side when you were a kid.
ddouglas said @ 05/11/2005 08:04 AM CST
going to pick off two easy ones before Sally gets them, whats up with a wealthy client EARLY in the morning. Sally you can E-mail me your explanation. #23 is Ramona Robinson, and # 24 is screaming eagle Art Olson, sorry you cant attend Art it would be great to see you.
**Dennis is right on both counts. Double "R" is Ramona Robinson...it must have been the first name hint that gave her away. Ramona is an interesting lady. And, #24 is Art Olson. His picture is on the Veterans Page. Anybody who knows Army talk and SE Asia Army talk, in particular, knows that an Infantry Platoon Leader, with the 82nd Airborne Division, in Viet Nam was not a slack job...it was an 'in your face' combat reality. Many of our veteran classmates were exposed to this war, but being exposed and being in face-to-face combat as regular fare, are two different things. You'll notice by Art's picture, 82nd Airborne people always show their left shoulder and display the Screaming Eagle patch with pride. You know what I'm atalking about Dennis...you were an infantry medic in Pleiku..and an Army Commendation Medal isn't something they just give out for being there...your job wasn't a 'rear' echilon job, either.
ddouglas said @ 05/11/2005 07:36 AM CST
Yes, Paul, that is my final answer. No fair changing the rules in the middle of the game. I will take the yearbook to bed with me tonite to see if I get any clues while I am asleep.
Final Answer, huh? Well, you're absolutely correct on both counts. Haven't heard anything from you today....bad experience with the Gumbo, or what? No hints? ha ha
sally m said @ 05/10/2005 06:23 PM CST
I was trying to get my answers in earlier this am but about that time a "wealthy client called" and had to get let my answers wait.--Darn. Paul, I am not going to let you know what clues are helping me out--don't want you to stop. Think I have #11 Cynthia Bowers and #15 Sandra See. Don't know why just a guess. Hey, where is everybody else. I know you told me there is a $ price for the most correct. Right?
Is That Your Final Answer? Yes, there are prizes for first, second and third. But, if you make a wrong guess you lose a point. This next group of mystery classmates are going to have a handicap...they're not going to be so easy. I might give double points for a right answer.
YES. Cynthia Bowers us the answer to #11 and Sandy See is # 15. Later, I'll post more information about them.
sally m said @ 05/10/2005 05:00 PM CST
I have to take a stab @ #1 mystery classmate, just cause its bugging me. Is it terry Smith? He was a very sharp dresser. We have 3 terrys if you count terri telford so im not sure. Good job Gaylord, we had a lot of fun on the old governors grounds. Remember Dana Ericksons dad made base pads right on the grass ajoinig Washington street. try that today.
**Dennis: they've landscaped the governor's grounds..little hills and moguls...I think this was a calculated move to eliminate those old fashioned baseball games. Boo. Good try on Terry Smith....but, wrong! Terry might be in Life Insurance, in a weird sort of way--He's a Doctor at Sioux Valley Hospital. Mystery classmate, # 1 lives in Missouri, on the Missouri. Go back to the original post and then look at the final hint. You deserve to win this one....after all, you're losing sleep over the deal.
BY THE WAY...There is a prize for the winner and it's a nice one...unique...one-of-a-kind. Get up early. I think Sally is going to sleep by her computer. ha ha
ddouglas said @ 05/10/2005 04:47 PM CST
#7 Dennis Douglas
#10 Gerry Boocock
#12 Gaylord Sonnenschein
#13 David Revoir
Excellent choices Sally. Looks the Dennis and Gaylord are going to be your competition. You're just going to have to wake up earlier! But, you do get a point for Gerry Boocock....what hint did I give for Gerry that you picked up on? Now, let's separate the wheat from the chaff...how about the rest of them. Gaylord--you should be able to pick up on mystery classmate # 1.
Sali Medsingher...you lose points for misspelling names...they're right on the web site along with the class picture. David Rivoire. How come you're so good at this? How about the Biebenheimer kid...what do you know about him?
sally m said @ 05/10/2005 01:19 PM CST
I see gaylord was up early going thru his e-mail. I agree # 9 is jim flannery, and # 12 is definetly Gaylord. The rest of them are pretty tough.
**Are you guys going to let Sally whip up on you like this? I think she's been reading my mail. She claims that if she wouldn't have had a wealthy client in early this morning she'd hae smoked you two. Call me at home...I'll give you some hints. ha ha
Ddouglas said said @ 05/10/2005 08:46 AM CST
Sorry about the double click, last time. I think #7 is Dennis Douglas
**Right, again. mystery classmate # 7 is Dennis Douglas. If it's any consolation both of you guys beat, Sally, the memory guru...she must have had a late start this morning. Dennis, no excuses! You're on MST and if you came to work before 9 am you could have beat Gaylord to the draw! Now, how about the rest? The easy ones are getting picked. Let's see how good you guys REALLY are?
Gaylord Sonnenschein said @ 05/10/2005 08:38 AM CST
Mistery Classmate # 9 is Jim Flannery and # 13 is David Revoir
Gaylord is the early bird on this one. He's right on with Jim and David. A little later I'll post both Jim and David's bio for a little more information. So, Gaylord, what was the clue that you picked up on first for each of these soldiers of the Class of '65. **Dennis Douglas nailed Jim Flannery, too, but Gaylord beat him to the draw.
